The English Language Centre is seeking applications for a student assistant position to assist with programming within the Centre. These programs include Off-Campus Housing, language programming, and new student intake and orientation. The position will be part-time from July to December with a possible extension in the winter semester as well.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the supervisor, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist with Off-Campus Housing in a variety of ways including responding to inquiries from both perspective students and landlords; posting ads to the off-campus housing site; and maintaining the site
  • Greet students and/or guests in a friendly manner, answering inquiries and directing people to the appropriate staff person within the English Language Centre
  • Plan and participate in English Language Program socio-cultural activities including welcoming new students and helping with orientation type activities
  • Perform other duties as required as they arise throughout the term

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience with working in an office setting, fast paced environment, multitasking
  • Strong computer skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently and be willing to work occasional evenings and / or weekends
  • A customer-service orientation and be comfortable interacting with people from many countries
  • Cross-cultural experience and familiarity with working in a post-secondary educational environment is a definite asset
  • Ideally, the candidate is a second or third year student

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
