Sessional Instructor - Department of Chemistry - Faculty of Science (Fall 2022)
The Department of Chemistry has an opening for a sessional instructor for the upcoming Fall Semester 2022 (September – December 2022) to teach Chemistry 2430 – Organic Chemistry for Life Sciences. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: all courses offered will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
CHEM 2430 - ORGANIC CHEMISTRY FOR THE LIFE SCIENCES
This course is an introduction to organic chemistry for students in the life sciences (and others who do not intend to pursue a major in chemistry). Topics covered include the structure and reactivity of hydrocarbons and functional groups, stereochemistry, aromaticity, nucleophilicity and electrophilicity. Basic types of reactions discussed include nucleophilic substitution, elimination, addition, oxidation/reduction, and reactions of carbonyl compounds.
Three lecture hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 11:30-12:20pm

Qualifications:
Successful applicants will have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related area. Preference will be given to qualified individuals on the sessional roster of the academic unit.
