The Animal Resources Department is seeking applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, term Animal Care Technician position. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The successful applicant will report directly to the Manager of Animal Resources and provide technical support to teaching and research activities that involve a range of animal species to include farm animals and horses
  • Provide support to the operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities
  • Provide care to animals as specified by the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC)
  • Assist students, faculty and researchers working with teaching and research animals
  • Provide support to facility users during research project set-up and execution
  • Maintain records on said activities and operations
  • The individual must conform to Standard Operating Procedures such as Good Laboratory Practice guidelines when working with animals, equipment and records
  • Weekend / Statutory Holiday work is required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum qualifications for the position include Grade 12, Animal Care Attendant training, and 3 years relevant experience working with animals in a teaching/research environment
  • Self-motivation
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a team
  • Established organizational and inter-personal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities
  • Proficiency in the use of computers is desirable
  • Applicants with an undergraduate degree/diploma in a relevant field (BSc, AHT, RLAT) and with practical experience would be considered an asset
