Five (5) Month Term Position - Assistant Professor
Contract:

The Faculty of Arts invites applications for a five-month term position (1 January 2022 to 31 May 2022) in Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level.  The successful candidate will teach ACLC 3060: Putting Arts to Work II (which continues ACLC 1060’s exploration of the Liberal Arts, introduces students to typical career fields for Liberal Arts majors, and guides students through learning basic research skills via the planning, researching, and presenting of a research project) and ACLC 4000: Advanced Workshop in Applied Communication, as well as one other course in an ACLC-related field of study (to be negotiated with the ACLC program director).  UPEI’s ACLC program has a strong reputation for excellence in undergraduate teaching and we welcome scholars who demonstrate effectiveness in the classroom. This position is subject to budgetary approval.

The Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture (ACLC) bachelor’s degree is a new interdisciplinary program designed to connect the communication skills and leadership training of a Liberal Arts education to successful post-graduation employment. The ACLC program is defined by its focus on the transferability of written, oral, and visual communication skills, critical thinking, research capacity, and cultural awareness acquired during a Liberal Arts education to the world beyond academia. Technical skills, work-integrated learning, and career-related mentoring are central components of the program’s design.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a completed doctoral degree in English, Communications, or a related field of applied studies and a strong record of success in teaching at the undergraduate level. Workplace experience in relevant sectors outside of academia will be considered an asset.

Application Instructions:

A complete application must include the following: a cover letter outlining how the candidate would contribute to the ACLC program, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier (including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi and course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching success), a research statement outlining current and future research projects, including links to, or copies of, key publications, and a media portfolio (if relevant). Candidates should also provide names and contact information for three references.

Applications should be addressed to:

Dr. Lisa Chilton, Director of Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture
lchilton@upei.ca

In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. UPEI is committed to the principle of equity in employment.

Closing date is October 28, 2021.
