The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Fall 2021.

ED-3730-99 INCLUSION AND DIFFERENTIATION OF ADULT LEARNERS

In this course, learners are introduced to inclusive education and to strategies and practices for supporting diverse learners in adult education contexts. The course gives an overview of learning differences, social/emotional/mental health, and diagnoses that impact learning. It also provides suggestions for teaching strategies to encourage adults to learn from their strengths and increase independence. Of particular interest are the use of assistive technology, self-advocacy, principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and awareness of services available to adult learners.

This is a three semester-hour course offered with the instructor teaching on campus on Wednesdays, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, September 8th to December 1st, 2021.  This course is offered to students in our Certificate in Adult Education and Bachelor of Education students interested in the Adult Education Study Focus.

ED-4200-3  TEACHING FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM)

This course introduces students to the pedagogies, practices, and instructional alternatives that foster acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes critical to success in the sciences, technology, engineering and maths.

This is a three semester-hour course offered in French with the instructor teaching on campus to students in our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program.  The course is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30am to 11:20am, September 13 to October 20, 2021.

ED-4280-3  PRIMARY/ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS II

A continuation of Education 4230, this course further examines and extends the pedagogy of Primary/Elementary focusing on how children conceptualize mathematics and instructional methods required to foster children’s numeracy skills.

This is a three semester-hour course offered in French with the instructor teaching on campus to students in the Primary/Elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program.  The course is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30am to 2:20pm, September 13 to October 20, 2021.

ED-6340 AN INTRODUCTION TO 21ST CENTURY TEACHING AND LEARNING (2 SECTIONS)

In this course, students will explore, assess, and critique various perspectives on the sociocultural, economic, political, and technological forces that are shaping education in the 21st century. Various forms of synchronous and asynchronous online environments will be introduced.

This is a three semester-hour course online to students in the MEd Focus on 21st Century Teaching & Learning (Online) from September 8 to December 8, 2021.

 

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education degree.  Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered.

In addition, candidates applying to teach graduate courses will normally have established expertise, and successful leadership and/or teaching experience in a context related to the foci of the cohort.

In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority.

THE OFFERING OF THESE COURSES IS CONDITIONAL PENDING FINAL ENROLMENT NUMBERS.  ALL SESSIONAL COURSES ARE SUBJECT TO THE FINAL BUDGETARY AND ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL.
