The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking one Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on several research projects related to climate modeling, flood mapping, coastal hazard monitoring and modeling, and climate smart agriculture.

The CCCCA is a 45,000 square-foot research facility located in the community of St. Peter’s Bay, PEI. The facility and the lands surrounding it serve as a living laboratory that allows for unlimited access to nearby wetlands, forests, and coastal habitats. The CCCCA is a world leading research and teaching center in understanding and adapting to climate change impacts.

This position will be co-hosted within the CCCCA and the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering at UPEI.


Term:  August 1, 2026 – July 31, 2028


The responsibilities of this position will include:

•    Leading on several research projects related to climate modeling, flood mapping, coastal hazard monitoring and modeling, and climate smart agriculture;
•    publishing research results in a timely manner in high-impact journals; 
•    writing project reports and research proposals; 
•    organizing meetings/webinars/conferences; and 
•    supervising graduate and undergraduate students.


The successful candidate for this position should meet the following criteria:

•    hold a PhD degree in a climate-related field, with research experience in a multidisciplinary setting (will be considered a strong asset);
•    have published peer-reviewed papers in the top-tier journals in the field of climate change;
•    have demonstrated expertise in climate data analysis and interpretation for data-driven decision making in climate change adaptation;
•    be an expert in regional climate models (e.g., WRF), hydrological models (e.g., HAC-RAS), coastal models (e.g., SWAN and Delft3D), high-performance computing clusters, geospatial analysis with ArcGIS/QGIS/Google Earth Engine, coding with Python and R, etc.
•    be self-motivated and have strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated experience with managing multiple tasks;
•    be willing to collaborate and work with an interdisciplinary research team; and 
•    have previous research experience about PEI’s climate change issues (this will be a great asset for consideration).
