The Department of Music at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a Sessional Instructor(s) to teach four (4) three-credit-hour courses in Aural Skills: MUS-1150 and MUS-2150 in the Fall 2023 semester; and MUS-1170 and MUS-2170 in the Winter 2024 semester. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

MUS-1150/1170 - Aural Skills I/II

These courses aim to develop comprehensive musical fluency: a thinking ear and a hearing mind. Students work toward mastery of fundamental musicianship skills, including perception and performance of diatonic melodic material; perception and performance of non-complex rhythms in all meters; and basic contextual listening, ensemble, and improvisation.

MUS-2150/2170 - Aural Skills III/IV

These courses aim to develop advanced musicianship skills, including perception and performance of chromatic and modulating melodies; and of non-traditional and atonal collections; perception and performance of complex rhythms; and advanced contextual listening, ensemble, and improvisation.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant(s) will hold a minimum of a master’s degree with significant experience in the practice of music theory and/or aural skills.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty members of the Academic unit.
