Acknowledging that UPEI is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications from qualified candidates for a Clinical Nursing Instructor position.

The Faculty of Nursing seeks to fill one (1) permanent 0.75 FTE Clinical Nursing Instructor position, with a five (5) year term increase to a 1.0 FTE appointment to support responsibilities as Clinical Placement Coordinator.


Term of Appointment:

The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026. The 1.0 FTE term increase will conclude on August 31, 2031, after which the appointment will revert to the 0.75 FTE permanent position.


Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will contribute to leadership and coordination of student clinical placements across undergraduate and graduate programs, in addition to responsibilities associated with the Clinical Placement Coordinator role.

As an integral member of the clinical teaching team, the Clinical Coordinator plays a key leadership role in coordinating and facilitating clinical placements for 300+ students each year in both the 2-year and 4-year nursing programs as well as students in the Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) stream and the new LPN to BScN program.  In this role, the Clinical Placement Coordinator works closely with Faculty to secure clinical placements that support students to meet clinical course objectives as well as entry-level competencies. The Clinical Placement Coordinator also works with multiple internal and external groups/agencies to secure a variety of clinical placements in both the private and public sectors and in community and hospital settings locally, regionally, and nationally.

The Clinical Placement Coordinator also participates in the Faculty of Nursing governance committees by offering their knowledge and expertise related to clinical practice, clinical education, and clinical placements. The Clinical Placement Coordinator also works with multiple internal and external stakeholders and applies their expertise in experiential education to support the direction and development of a cohesive curriculum that ensures students meet entry-to-practice competencies for Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. 

The Clinical Placement Coordinator works collaboratively with the Faculty of Nursing Graduate Studies Coordinator and Faculty who teach in the MN-NP stream to develop, plan, and coordinate clinical placements for students.

This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island offers the only undergraduate and graduate programs for the nursing profession in the province. Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a master's degree in nursing (MN or MScN) and possess a minimum of five (5) years of full-time clinical teaching experience. Experience coordinating clinical placements will be considered an asset. Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing & Midwifery (PEICNM).

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, along with knowledge of computer information systems in healthcare settings and learning management systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Completion of the Canadian Nurse Educator Institute (CNEI) Clinical Instructor Certificate is considered an asset. Leadership experience and/or education will also be regarded as assets. A valid driver’s license is required.


Hours of Work:

•    September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2031: 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
•    Effective September 1, 2031: 28 hours per week (0.75 FTE)


Salary:

$54.11 per hour, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the University of Prince Edward Island Board of Governors and the University of Prince Edward Island Faculty Association Bargaining Unit #1.
