$56,709 to $62,366 per annum, prorated to time and term as per CUPE 1870

Do you want to join a dynamic team practicing and teaching the highest standards of Veterinary Medicine?  Do you want to advance your technical skills and work in an environment with dedicated primary care clinicians and leading veterinary specialist experts?  Do you want to be part of shaping the next generation of veterinarians?  If so, we’d love to have you join us!  The Veterinary Teaching Hospital requires a Registered Veterinary Technician to join in a 0.6 FTE term position working in a rotating shift schedule including days, nights and weekends in the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, providing support to the triage/primary care emergency service and the ICU. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Willingness to work within a team to assist with patient and client care across the triage/primary care emergency service and ICU
  • Completing and assisting with treatments for patients
  • Ability to perform necessary nursing skills for the various levels of care required (including animal handling and restraint, and basic husbandry)
  • Monitoring and reporting to the clinician any findings or abnormalities with the patient in relation to the treatment and/or monitoring of their care and well-being
  • Support emergency service clinicians and VTH SA interns/clinicians with client communication (including discussing estimates, consent forms, and client education/care)
  • Support client services staff in ensuring an excellent client experience including answering triage calls, taking payments, and client communication
  • Stocking and maintaining supplies in various hospital locations
  • Updating patient billing and working with clinicians and client services staff to ensure that patient bills are completed and paid prior to patient discharge
  • Assist in the maintenance of complete and accurate medical records
  • Monitoring, advising, assisting and supporting veterinary students, AHT students, and interns participating in post-graduate programs with confidence and compassion
  • Monitoring hospitalized patients
  • Willing to participate in a rotating shift schedule with a team of RVTs consisting of evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays and university closures
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and biosecurity standards
  • Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a graduate of an Animal Health Technician program from a recognized facility
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) designation is required
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated ability in Windows and iOS Operating Systems
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records is required, with preference to applicants with knowledge of RxWorks and Smart Flow
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated and accountable to yourself, your patients, and your team
  • Demonstrated experience in inputting, maintaining and reviewing patient billing
  • Experience with a flexible schedule (including night work) preferred
  • Experience in a triage/emergency setting preferred
  • Three (3) years of work experience with small animal patients preferred
  • Experience with LA technician duties and/or handling skills is an asset
  • Excellent technical proficiency with experience and confidence with triaging emergencies, placing catheters and administering IV fluids, performing sample collection, assisting with diagnostic procedures, performing patient assessments and administering required treatments
