The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applicants for a contract position in clinical pathology.  This is a position equivalent to a 0.23 FTE contract but with 12 weeks of work done over an 11-month, 29-day span (August 22, 2022 until August 19, 2023) including time between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  It is ideally composed of 12 full-time work weeks flexibly scheduled, but other arrangements are also possible.  Applications for part of this time frame will also be considered.

The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will consist of the examination and interpretation of cytologic samples and providing interpretations of chemical, hematologic and endocrinologic data in a timely fashion from samples submitted to the AVC Diagnostic Services Laboratory. Instruction of senior veterinary students in clinical pathology is included in this position. The diagnostic clinical pathology laboratory at the AVC has state of the art equipment and is staffed with contributions from four American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) board certified clinical pathologists and six staff members. It provides high quality service to both the AVC hospital and clients from the four Atlantic Canadian provinces. 

The AVC is located on the campus of UPEI in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI). Nestled on the east coast of Canada, PEI is one of the world’s most beautiful islands, and is home to sandy beaches, championship golf courses, extensive bike and cross-country ski trails and a vibrant arts community. Qualifications:

  • Have a DVM or equivalent degree
  • Be board certified or board eligible by the ACVP in clinical pathology
  • Hold a graduate degree in veterinary clinical pathology
  • Have teaching skills
  • Possess well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship building and communication
  • Be eligible for licensure with the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association

Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.
