The Faculty of Business at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach courses in the Undergraduate and the Graduate programs for the Fall 2021 semester. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the courses in the Graduate (MBA) programs will be taught in person, unless advised otherwise due to public health guidelines. The courses in the Undergraduate program will be hybrid or web as per the course descriptions below.

Fall 2021:

Undergraduate Program:

BUS1410 Marketing (WEB)

This course presents the basic concepts of marketing. It introduces the marketing function, marketing systems and the marketing concept and then focuses on the development of marketing strategies, target markets, and the marketing mix in a decision-making context.

BUS2880 Research & Evidence Based Management (HYBRID)

Evidence-based management considers ethics and stakeholder concerns, practitioner judgment and expertise, local data and experimentation, and principles derived through formal research to inform decision-making. This course introduces students to qualitative and quantitative perspectives and methods for conducting and evaluating business research. Students develop information literacy as they learn to question assumptions and think critically about the nature of evidence and claims made about organizational phenomena. Problems in and prospects for improved managerial decision-making are included.

BUS3710 Entrepreneurship & New Ventures (WEB)

This course is a study of the nature and background of entrepreneurship and the process involved from idea to opportunity to new business venture. Students are expected to study the environment in which entrepreneurship flourishes from both the perspective of the entrepreneur and of the economic system. The generation of ideas and opportunities is discussed, as well as the subsequent transformation of an opportunity into a formal business plan. The course concludes with an examination of the process of implementation of the business plan and the management of the new business which results. Extensive case analysis is required.

BUS4820-1 Sp. Topics: Business of Life Sciences (WEB)

This course will give an overview of the commercialization of innovations in life science areas. The course will highlight this sector from several vantage points: research & development, regulatory and marketing, governance, financial, legal and intellectual property considerations, funding, aligning scientific and business goals. It aims to create an understanding for the types and sources of innovation, technological approaches, key issues as well as strategic considerations and best practices in the life science industry. The course incorporates the latest research on topics in the business of life sciences. It will take into account the international business environment, globalization aspects and emerging market dynamics as well as the 4th industrial revolution in life sciences and its impact on the business case. The course will consist of lectures, examples and discussion of current topics in the business of life science. 

Qualifications for teaching undergraduate courses:

Successful applicants will have a minimum of a master's level degree or equivalent with a combination of qualifications and experience. 

 

Graduate Programs:

BUS6090 Business Communications (In Person)

This course is designed to help students hone their oral and written communication skills. Students will learn how to deliver professional, engaging, and persuasive public presentations and written work. The course will also teach effective communication within meetings and team settings. In addition, the course will review the principles of academic integrity.

Qualifications for teaching graduate courses:

Successful applicants will have a strong combination of qualifications and experience. Minimum educational credentials include a PhD and/or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. For accounting courses, a CPA designation also counts as an appropriate educational credential. In addition, advanced senior management experience in the course topic is preferred and is a requirement for applicants without a PhD. Prior teaching experience, and knowledge and familiarity with “Evidence-based Management” principles will be considered assets.

These are individual courses and we are accepting applications for each course. Applicants must identify the course in the application. Applicants are encouraged to apply for more than one course if you meet the qualifications. Also note, priority will be given to qualified individuals on the sessional roster of the academic unit.
