The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, pending budgetary approval.  We are seeking a new colleague with expertise in second language learning and experiential background and continued academic interest in French education to join a dynamic and resourceful team of educators. This position would begin on June 1, 2021.

The successful candidate will be bilingual, with superior oral and written French. A Bachelor of Education, a relevant Master’s degree, and a doctoral degree in education or in a related field are essential.  Candidates will have a successful record of school teaching in a K-12 context in one or more aspects of French Education (French Immersion, French First Language, Core French). Teaching in post-secondary context is considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have expertise and experience in teaching university courses in French language and literacy. The successful candidate may be required to supervise student teachers. A valid driver’s license is required.  The successful candidate may also coordinate the Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program.

Preferred applicants will have a sound understanding of contemporary critical issues in education. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct academic research on second language learning or other related fields.  The successful candidate will also be expected to serve on Faculty and University committees.

The Faculty of Education is committed to developing caring, compassionate and innovative teachers. We offer 12-month Bachelor of Education programs in English and in French Education. With specializations in Indigenous, International, Adult Education, and Early Years Education, our programs have a strong focus on issues pertaining to diversity, equity and social justice in local and global communities. At the graduate level, the Master of Education degree is offered in both course-based and thesis-based streams. We also offer a PhD in Educational Studies. In addition, the Faculty offers a Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut (CELN) program in partnership with the Department of Education, Government of Nunavut.

A complete application must include the following: a cover letter outlining potential contributions to the Faculty, a statement of Canadian status (citizen, permanent resident, or other), a full curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a research statement outlining current and future research interests. Candidates should also provide names and contact information for three references who may be contacted for full letters of reference.  Only complete files will be considered.
