The Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development is seeking a Business Officer to provide operational support and oversight of a suite of continuing education/professional development certificate programs and courses. This position will work closely with the Program Officer to support the ongoing development and administration of the strategic recruitment of students and clients to UPEI’s Professional Development Program. This is a multifaceted role which includes a variety of tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a strategic approach for recruiting and cultivating students/clients to UPEI
  • Develop and maintain office budgetary and financial activities (e.g. monitor budget, process/approve payments) in collaboration with the Program Officer
  • Research alternative revenue streams including creating contract proposals, developing new partnerships, responding to grant/funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals in collaboration with the Program Officer
  • Plan, develop and implement new projects in collaboration with the Program Officer
  • Develop and execute a five-year strategic plan and execute a sales and marketing plan in collaboration with the Program Officer
  • Identify and prospect opportunities for continuing education/ professional development programs/courses and work with content experts to development new programming
  • Develop and maintain marketing activities to promote the program and course offerings developed by the Program Officer
  • In collaboration with the Program Officer, create an array of publications, brochures, and other marketing material, ensuring program information and the respective website is accurate and up to date
  • Prepare and post material in support of the Office’s social media profile for community outreach and promotional purposes
  • Represent the program at marketing functions, deliver presentations and serve as one of the primary points of contact for clients, instructors etc.
  • Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with UPEI’s policies and procedures
  • Develop and foster business relations, promote the profile of the Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development and attract corporate (government, private sector, non-profit organization) and individual clients
  • Provide Consultation Services to government, business and other organizations seeking adult education programming
  • Plan, evaluate and improve the efficiency of the Professional Development Program’s business processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, quality, and output, in conjunction with the Program Officer
  • Draft proposals in response to client enquiries for customized training and requests for proposals, an
  • Other duties as may be required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • We are seeking a person with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field.  Preference will be given to candidates who have a combined minimum of three-year (3) years of experience in a business development role
  • Experience with budgets, sales, marketing, and proposal writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, E-Mail usage, Power Point, Internet searching
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Excellent writing (grammatical, typographical, and ability to improve and edit documents) and   familiarity with the university environment, policy and procedures and possession of an undergraduate degree would be useful assets
  • Intercultural competence and function as an effective member of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate superior customer service orientation and attention to detail; previous communications centered experience would be an asset
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience with MyUPEI, Colleague, 25Live, Moodle, and social media platforms (e.g.  Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) would be considered an asset
