The University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a permanent part-time Research Technician (0.5 FTE) in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support faculty research by performing a range of biochemical, molecular, and cellular assays and will assist in the execution of experiments investigating toxicological, physiological, and biochemical endpoint
- Day-to-day management of the research laboratory, procurement of supplies, maintenance of equipment, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols
- Maintain detailed and accurate experimental records, analyze data, and assist in the preparation of research reports
- Provide guidance and technical assistance to students and other personnel as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates must hold a B.Sc. in a relevant discipline such as biology, biochemistry, or toxicology, and have a minimum of three years of experience in an analytical or research laboratory
- Demonstrate interest or background in toxicological, biochemical, or physiological research is essential
- Experience with fluorescence- and spectrophotometry-based assays, cell culture techniques, molecular biology methods, and be familiar with mitochondrial respirometry and atomic absorption spectrophotometry
- Ability and willingness to work with live fish, or to learn to do so, is required
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with proficiency in data handling, analysis, and interpretation, are required
- Demonstrate sound laboratory management practices and familiarity with quality assurance and quality control procedures
- Have a high degree of independence, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment are essential
