Business Analysts provide ongoing business analysis in support of ITSS strategic objectives. This position will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to implement and enhance the university's IT systems and related processes by analyzing requirements; designing & reviewing processes; and recommending system solutions and / or process changes. This position will also provide project management for small to medium sized projects.

Working as part of the ITSS Team, the Business Analyst provides client facing services. The Business Analyst must maintain a holistic view of UPEI systems and processes and factor that into proposing any changes to existing processes, expansion of functionality in existing systems, the selection of a new system, or any in-house development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In individual and team projects and initiatives, the Business Analyst will apply management, planning, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments and to facilitate implementing new IT systems and processes.

Duties include:

  • Facilitating and participating in unit meetings with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals
  • Develop SMART goals and metrics for the deployment and optimization of client facing solutions
  • Support the planning of ITSS strategic goals.
  • Identifying and charting existing business processes to define current business activities for the development of procedures and models to effect continuous improvement
  • Project management
  • Meeting milestone dates for major task completion
  • Liaising with project implementation teams and operational teams on an ongoing basis
  • Preparing and delivering reports, recommendations, or alternatives for improving processes in existing systems across the organization
  • Collaborating in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications, and enhancements to existing applications
  • Reviewing and working with relevant confidential and sensitive university data
  • Taking inventory of system related documents, reports, policies etc.
  • Developing prototype procedures for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow
  • Creating process maps, specifications diagrams, and charts to provide direction to systems programmers
  • Providing basic systems support for departmental staff
  • Identifying and establishing scope and parameters of process analysis to define impact, outcome criteria, and measure-taking actions
  • Creation of training materials
  • Communicating process changes, enhancements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation – to management, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood
  • Be an organizational change management champion for ITSS initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, or computer science, or finance, or management information systems and 5 years related work experience. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered
  • Experience with business and technical requirements gathering & analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data modelling
  • Experience working with highly confidential materials
  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of software and / or hardware solutions, systems, or products
  • Ability to create systematic and manual operations procedures in both detailed and user-friendly language
  • Ability to apply statistical and other research methods into systems issues and products as required
  • Project management experience
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Experience working at a post-secondary educational institution would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Ellucian products, especially the Colleague system, would be considered an asset
  • A business analysis or project management certification would be considered an asset
  • A professional financial designation would be considered an asset

Work Conditions

  • Mostly office conditions
  • This position may require some off-hours work, due to the nature of the systems and processes that this role will interact with
