The Faculty of Education, University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for the position of Graduate Studies Coordinator.

The Graduate Studies Coordinator at the Faculty of Education is responsible for the development and implementation of diverse graduate programs serving a significant number of students in our Masters of Education, Certificate of Educational Leadership in Nunavut, and PhD programs. The Coordinator is part of a team that works to ensure that the Faculty of Education is meeting the needs of its graduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Dean of Education, with the support of the Administrative Assistant for Graduate Studies, and in collaboration with the Graduate Studies Committee, the Graduate Studies Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Directing the Faculty’s current graduate programs as outlined in the UPEI academic calendar
  • Liaising with educational stakeholders to investigate education programming needs and wants
  • Developing, planning, and implementing new programs and new foci for the MEd in Leadership and Learning
  • Responding to program development and quality control processes required by the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC) as required
  • Planning marketing initiatives for new cohorts of graduate students
  • Overseeing responses to inquiries regarding Certificate, Masters and Doctoral programs and/or responding to student or potential student queries
  • Reading, reviewing, and making decisions regarding admissions files with the assistance of the Graduate Studies Committee and the Administrative Assistant for Graduate Studies
  • Planning the flow and scheduling of graduate and certificate courses
  • Participating in the hiring committee for sessional instructors for graduate and certificate courses
  • Assisting in providing instructional support and guidelines to instructors offering courses in an online and/or blended approach
  • Facilitating adequate supervision of all graduate students in the Faculty
  • Confidentially attending to and assisting graduate students and faculty address issues that may be of concern
  • Coordinating transparent processes, supporting the administration of graduate student support, awards, and nominations, and adjudicates various graduate student award programs, including Master and doctoral Tri-Council applications at the university level
  • Chairing the Faculty of Education Graduate Studies Committee and consulting with the Committee as required
  • Participating on various Faculty and University Committees, including the UPEI Graduate Studies Advisory Committee
  • Developing events for graduate students, including orientation, social events, and information sessions
  • Reviewing and developing policies and procedures with respect to graduate studies in the Faculty of Education
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Dean

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate will hold a doctoral degree in Education or in a related field, and have experience in teaching at a graduate level as well as in the supervision of graduate students
  • Preferred applicants will be proficient multi-taskers and have stellar leadership, communication, and time-management skills
  • Previous experience in Graduate Studies Coordination is an asset
