Sessional Instructors - Department of Sociology and Anthropology - Faculty of Arts (Fall 2023)
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for Sessional Instructors for the Fall 2023 Semester. We are seeking instructors to teach the following courses in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. All positions are subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: all courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
SOC 3010 - Sociological Theory I (3 Credits)
This course examines the social and political contexts in which sociology was formally constituted as an academic discipline. It also offers an interpretive analysis of some of the major ideas, systems of explanation, and modes of analysis generated by the early sociologists. Three hours a week
SAN 4610 - Education and Inequality (3 credits)
This course will present the recent literature on the sociology of education, including the relationships between schools, students, families and the community. It will also explore the interaction between education from pre-K to post-secondary with the domains of health and psychology, government, economics and culture. The potential for inequality for students as a result of their race, social status, gender, ability and other factors will be explored.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants will have a graduate degree or a doctoral degree in Sociology or Anthropology.
Please note that applicants on the UPEI sessional roster for Sociology and Anthropology will be considered first.
