Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the successful candidate would work closely with instructors and technical staff within the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering. Duties would include providing mentorship, advice, input, and guidance to students in Design Clinic projects. They would oversee the coordination of technical support for student projects in the Design Clinics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the main technical resource and mentor to design projects, other technicians, and students
  • Coordinate technical support for design clinic projects for the manufacturing of testing apparatus and prototypes
  • Assist in coordinating fabrication and in scoping projects
  • Provide advice, expertise and support in the design, setup and supervision for prototype testing associated with student design projects
  • Work with faculty to set up lab experiments for engineering courses
  • Maintain engineering teaching labs
  • Assist in the coordination of equipment purchase, maintenance, and inventory
  • Assist in the procurement of materials and supplies
  • Work with research personnel and clients on industry-related projects
  • Design and edit 3D models for use in additive manufacturing (e.g. 3D printing)
  • Adhere to a safe work environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year diploma in an Engineering related field or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with industrial equipment and operations related to one or more of these areas: bioresources, sustainable energy, advanced manufacturing, robotics and industrial automation, and intelligent sensors and systems in an industrial research and development environment
  • Experience with instrumentation and controls
  • Experience in a laboratory and shop environment
  • Demonstrated creative, communication, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task, coordinate projects and function professionally in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
  • Excellent computer skills
