The Robertson Library is seeking applicants able to work across functional areas within an academic library context. The successful candidate will work with the Library’s Collections unit to support the maintenance of online holdings and with the University Archives and Special Collections unit to support the maintenance of collections and records. They will also provide public service to students, staff, and faculty of the University and the general public. The applicant will be expected to demonstrate sound judgement, flexibility, and initiative. This position will implement library policies and directions set by the Library; positively contribute to the Library’s overall work environment and projects, and; work in cooperation with library colleagues.  Responsibilities will shift and alter as Library needs and demands change.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide support for the Library’s print and online serial holdings:

  • Process and keep records of print serial subscriptions, including claiming and storage
  • Maintain holdings lists of online journals for both public and staff use
  • Maintain perpetual access and licensing records by vendor, title, years/volume
  • Verify access to renewed titles yearly or as issues arise
  • Download usage statistics for every electronic product that provides them
  • Troubleshoot, document, and report access issues
  • Maintain vendor records and verify accounts
  • Other duties as required

Provide support for the maintenance of special collections and archival holdings:

  • Process university archives and special collections acquisitions
  • Inventory archival holdings and materials
  • Ensure holdings are shelved and stored properly
  • Move collections as directed
  • Record statistics and other metrics
  • Prepare and process holdings for binding
  • Participate in related digitization projects
  • Other duties as required

Provide public service:

  • Assist library users in accessing and locating library resources
  • Provide information/reference service both in-person and online via the Library’s virtual chat service
  • Assists in giving tours and providing support for other outreach activities
  • Circulate and check-in library resources, laptops, etc.
  • Help train and supervise student assistants

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution would be an asset
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in an automated library environment
  • Experience working with print and electronic serial holdings and/or archival and special collections materials would be an asset
  • Effective technology skills including proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing programs
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and responsiveness to Library users
  • An open attitude towards new technology
  • Flexible approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively respond to issues
  • Ability to perform some bending/lifting, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items

Successful candidates will work day shifts and may also be scheduled evenings and weekends depending on the Library’s requirements.
