Contract & Policy Advisor - Risk Management Office *Amended*
Reporting to the Risk Manager, the Contract & Policy Advisor will support the operational risk management needs of the University. This position is responsible for supporting the University community in regards to contract management and Board of Governors’ policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide University staff, faculty and researchers with guidance and advice regarding contracts, including advising on contract process
• Review contracts from a legal perspective and offer advice on the legal consequences of the University entering into the contract
• Review contracts for compliance with the University’s policies and procedures and ensure that all appropriate contract processes/approvals have been followed prior to contract execution
• Coordinate having contracts executed by the appropriate University signing officers
• Work closely with Comptroller’s Office and Research Services in supporting efficient review and processing of contracts
• Create educational materials, tools and resources for creating awareness of contract administration requirements
• Support the development and maintenance of Board of Governors’ policy and procedures
• Develop, revise, amend and review University policies related to risk management
• Coordinate the review and development of University policies with various levels of management
• Ensure University policies are vetted by the appropriate University stakeholders and are presented to external legal counsel for review, as required
• Provide regular updates to the University community relating to new or amended Board of Governors’ policies
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have a law degree from a recognized university. Experience in contract law and/or policy development would be considered an asset
• Knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of contract law, indemnity, insurance, liability, waivers and contract management
• Ability to interpret legislation and policy
• Problem-solving, analytical, facilitation skills
• Strong communication skills (verbal, listening, written)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Experience interacting with various levels of a large organization is an asset
• Computer knowledge and competencies including but not limited to Microsoft suite, and Google suite
