The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering is looking to hire a research assistant for a project that investigates microfluidics, heat transfer, and machine learning as applied to thermal engineering systems. A literature review of the latest state of knowledge in the field will be performed. Measurements will be acquired with an experimental facility. Also, computational models in Python will be developed and applied for machine learning. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assembly and testing in a microfluidics experiment with measurements including, but not limited to, pressure and flow rate through microchannels
  • Development and application of artificial neural networks through Python coding as applied to performance and fault detection in energy systems
  • Online materials will be developed for enhancements to a 4th edition textbook, Advanced Heat Transfer
  • Interactive features will be created for the eBook, including but not limited to, audio, quizzes, video, data visualization (charts, graphs available in an accessible way), and interactive problems and solutions
  • The research assistant will conduct independent studies, and a final report will be submitted at the end of the project

QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering is required, graduate training would be an asset
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a related field
  • Well-organized, mature self-starter
  • Well-demonstrated communication skills including oral, written, and electronic
  • Strong interpersonal skills
