AVC Vet Camp Counsellors (Up to 5 Positions) - AVC Deans Office - Atlantic Veterinary College
$17.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
May 26 – August 14, 2026
The Atlantic Veterinary College offers two, one-week junior day camps for youth entering grades 7, 8, and 9 and two, one-week senior day camps for those entering grades 10, 11, and 12, in addition to an Indigenous Vet Camp week. The national award-winning Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp provides a high quality, hands-on educational opportunity for children interested in veterinary medicine, animals, and science.
The positions offer 12 weeks of full-time employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Camp Counsellors work with the AVC Vet Camp Senior Coordinator on the planning and day-to-day operations of the AVC Vet Camp. More information about the AVC Vet Camp can be found at www.upei.ca/avc/camp.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidates must:
- Must be a current UPEI Student with preference given to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students who have completed at least one year of the DVM program (by summer 2026); however, students in other disciplines will be considered
- Possess strong organizational and leadership skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, enthusiastic, and creative
- Be willing to learn, teach, motivate, and supervise the activities of campers
- Be familiar with animals and animal handling
- Prior experience as camp leader or counsellor would be an asset
- First aid certification is preferred, although candidates who are willing to complete certification will be considered
Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
