Student Affairs is currently seeking one individual to lead an EDI (equity, diversity and inclusion) initiative with the Campus Life Program for the 2021 - 2022 academic year. The EDI lead will be responsible for creating, developing and implementing events and initiatives that promote dialogue, understanding and learning. The EDI lead will help students develop a sense of belonging within the larger UPEI community and will help connect students with community members and leaders in an effort to amplify diverse lived experiences and voices. The EDI lead will be responsible for planning monthly events with the aim of creating a safe, diverse and inclusive space within the Campus Life Lounge that celebrates BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ leaders/mentors here on campus and within the wider community.

CLA Leads will have the same responsibilities as the CLAs (supporting students and working duty nights in the Campus Life Lounge, receiving the CLA honorarium) and in addition, will be responsible for several other duties primarily to ensure the successful delivery of the Campus Life Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Lead will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Promote innovative and accountable diversity and equity related programming
  • Plan Campus Life Events for the academic year that integrates and prioritizes equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) practices
  • Coordinate and schedule discussions with community leaders with diverse lived experiences
  • Assist in managing the Campus Life Facebook Page and other social media platforms as required
  • Coordinate with other CLA leads and CLA events
  • Be on-call in case a CLA has an emergency (can't come in for their shift/problem in the lounge)
  •  Network with campus groups to collaborate on events
  • Create and Distribute Paper Advertising for the Campus Life Program (handouts/posters) and the events
  • Update Monthly Calendar and Campus Life Banner
  •  Attend scheduled staff meetings
  • Other duties in assisting with the delivery and promotion of the Campus Life Program as they arise throughout the year

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and/or experience incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) practices
  • Keen interest in education and programming for social justice and equity  2nd, 3rd or 4th year student in Academic Good Standing
    Strong social media skills and demonstrates digital leadership
    Excellent understanding of own interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
  • Enjoys working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures
    Demonstrates creativity and problem‐solving skills
    Works effectively in a team and independently
    Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Strong English communication skills
    Ability to work with minimal supervision, is dependable and reliable
  • Lived experience or expertise in diversity and inclusion an asset
