The L.M. Montgomery Institute (LMMI) (https://www.lmmontgomery.ca/) is seeking an undergraduate social media assistant to support digital activities relating to the institute’s mission of promoting “research into, and informed celebration of, the life, works, culture, and influence of the Prince Edward Island-born, acclaimed Canadian writer, L.M. Montgomery.” The LMMI supports many exciting initiatives: its biennial conference (to be held next in June 2020); the newly launched open access, multimedia, interdisciplinary Journal of L.M. Montgomery Studies; and a proposed L.M. Montgomery Institute Hub.  Interest in Montgomery on PEI is high with the launch of the new Parks Canada visitors centre at Green Gables Heritage Place, the Montgomery Heritage Park in Cavendish, and the L.M. Montgomery Literary Tour.

The student will be supervised remotely by Melanie Fishbane, LMMI website and social media manager, and will be the LMMI’s UPEI-based social media contact. The student will create content about Montgomery events and LMMI projects as well as by drawing on the library’s resources (e.g., KindredSpaces.ca). 

A Faculty of Arts student will have the opportunity to further develop their communications skills—verbal, written, and digital—in an applied context. This student will develop digital and communication skills as well as enhance their ability to collaborate with academic and community partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with various L.M. Montgomery Institute social media

•Attend Montgomery-related events on campus (may require weekends and/or evenings)

• Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• UPEI Bachelor of Arts Student 
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Demonstrated experience working with social media, ideally in a professional setting
• Willingness to learn new digital tools
• Experience working closely with others 
• The ability to work independently and be well organized
• Familiarity with/interest in the life and/or work of L.M. Montgomery
• Familiarity with/interest in Prince Edward Island/Atlantic Canadian literature and/or history
