Fall 2022

The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Fall 2022.

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

ED-4640-3 - Educating for Global Citizenship (1 French section)

This course is intended to broaden pre-service teachers’ theoretical and pedagogical perspectives on global citizenship education by gaining an enhanced awareness of a world view that recognizes the interdependence and interconnections of the natural and social worlds. Participants will be introduced to the concept of global citizenship and, from this, develop an understanding of social justice, diversity, socio-cultural responsibility, sustainability, and agency. Demonstrating how to integrate global citizenship into educational practices is a key learning outcome of this course.

This is a three semester-hour course offered online to students in the Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program.  The course is offered Monday to Friday, 1:00 to 4:00pm, December 5 to December 16, 2022.

ED-4900-3 - Intégration de la Langue au Contenu (1 French section)

This course will provide a foundation for the integration of language and content taught in French first and second language programs. Through examination and application of different models, students will develop competence in the integration of context and language.

This is a three semester-hour course offered online to students in the Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program.  The course is offered Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm, December 5 to December 16, 2022.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education degree.  Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content. Where courses are offered on-line using multi-media technologies, applicants will normally be able to demonstrate successful on-line teaching experience.

Bilingual positions in the Faculty of Education require a proficient knowledge of both official languages. Fluency, in English and in French, in each of the three language skills: reading, writing and oral interaction are essential. Instructors will not be required to deliver instruction in French; however, instructors will be asked to communicate with students in either language during one-on-one or small group discussions. Instructors must also be able to assess all written assignments in either official language.

French positions in the Faculty of Education are delivered completely in French. Instructors must be proficient in reading, writing, and oral interaction in French. All class work will be assessed in French.

In addition, candidates applying to teach graduate courses will normally have established expertise, and successful leadership and/or teaching experience in a context related to the foci of the cohort.

In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority.

The offering of these courses is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All Sessional courses are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
