The UPEI Quantitative Arts Initiative (QAI) is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary pilot project within the Faculty of Arts that supports students in building confidence and curiosity when engaging with quantitative ideas in their studies. Many Arts students encounter elements of quantitative reasoning in a variety of disciplines. These concepts, while increasingly central to understanding the world, can sometimes feel unfamiliar or intimidating. The QAI seeks to bridge this gap by offering welcoming, student-centered sessions where learners can find guidance, explore how numbers connect to meaning, and appreciate the interpretive and creative dimensions of quantitative thinking as an integral part of the Arts.

For this pilot project, we are seeking applications from individuals who can support students’ development of quantitative skills, reinforcing and supporting their classroom learning through one-to-one or small group instruction and tutoring.

- Students who have successfully completed Econ 3080, or Soc 3320, or Psych 3710, are especially encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated ability to support students as they work through assignments or prepare for exams
- Enthusiasm for encouraging and uplifting students, helping them build confidence in quantitative methods, and using examples that resonate within Arts disciplines
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain statistical concepts and quantitative methods in ways that help non-expert students to understand, including in cases where students may be resistant to or anxious about using quantitative methods; capacity to put students at ease
- Completion of the Preventing Sexual Violence at UPEI Badge
