Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) - Residence Life and Housing - Ancillary Services
$62,690 to $69,511 per annum

We are currently seeking a Residence Life Coordinator to help us fulfill our mission and to assist in offering support to our students, student staff, department, and larger campus. Reporting to the Assistant Manager – Residence Life & Culture Manager and working closely with the Manager - Residence Life and Housing, the RLC will play a critical role in promoting student development and academic success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Well-being:
- Identify and respond to students of concern (physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing) through regular discussions and follow-up with students, student staff and professional staff. Refer students to campus resources as required
- Along with the Assistant Manager, Residence Life, ensure community standards are managed, and students are compliant and act in accordance with residence life policies
- Provide advice and assistance to students and student staff who are identified as being at risk. Support student staff in identifying risks and working toward a healthy and safe resolution. Refer to appropriate resources as required
Community Development:
- Provide support and leadership around community building and development within the residence community and campus wide. Work with students, student staff, professional staff, to help promote student success through programming, outreach, relationship building, scheduling, check-ins, and assessment. Be prepared to help build, develop, and support the community development model in Residence Life
- Collaborate with students, student staff, faculty. and staff to find ways to build a stronger community – this includes events such as Welcome Week, Open House, and regular programming. Be responsive to unplanned opportunities and setbacks.
- Establish relationships with campus partners to enhance the Residence Life program, and more importantly foster greater opportunities for community development across the campus
- Be able to assess community development initiatives and respond accordingly
Residence Management:
- Work with the other members of the Residence Life team to ensure the residences are maximizing occupancy rates. Work to support move-in and move-out activities including room inspections. Help build and develop policies and procedures to improve the Residence Life program and manage compliance
- As required, provide frontline support to students. This includes answering inquiries, supporting room moves requests, applications, campus cards, and meal plan options
- Be actively involved in recruitment and retention initiatives Related to Residence Life
- Attend and participate in professional development sessions and all-staff meetings. Check and respond to communications (emails or chats) daily for information and updates
- Assist with the Residence Social Media channels
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
- Collaborate with the larger University EDI teams to align residence programming and education with larger organizational goals
- Develop an understanding of the complexity of leading and educating in a diverse community and action that learning in appropriate and meaningful ways
- Work with members of the residence community to highlight areas of opportunity and concern as this relates to EDI and accessibility
Student Staff Selection and Training:
- As a member of the Residence Life team you will help plan for, advertise, recruit, and hire our student staff
- Participate in the planning, development, and delivery of both annual (August and January) student staff training and ongoing professional development opportunities throughout the year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree plus one year of relevant work experience or a combination of experience and education
- Proven understanding of, and commitment to, the residence life experience and a living and learning model for student success
- Solid background and experience working in community development, with the ability to demonstrate progressive residence service experiences and leadership skills.
- Experience with the residence/housing application and assignment process
- Sound knowledge and experience using eRezLife Student Housing Software
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Including proficiency using multiple software programs and social media
- Ability to collect, coordinate and report on residence data
- Demonstrated decision making skills and sound judgment, along with strong conflict management and crisis management skills
- Mental Health First Aid and ASIST Training is considered an asset
- Proven ability to lead and be part of a highly effective team, demonstrate initiative and contribute to overall success of UPEI’s Ancillary operation
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of the position, irregular working hours should be expected, along with some restrictions on vacation periods. The RLC will be part of an on-call rotation providing 24/7 support to members of the residence community. This is a live-in position.
