The University of Prince Edward Island, Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, has a term position opening for the position of Associate Dean, Academic.


Expressions of interest and applications are invited for the Associate Dean, Academic of the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE). This is a three-year position, with eligibility for consideration of an additional three-year term subject to satisfactory performance and review after two years by the dean and a Review Committee. This is an internal search open only to full-time Faculty members in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, University of Prince Edward Island.


General Description:

The Associate Dean promotes and supports activities related to the experience, progress, and success of students in the undergraduate Sustainable Design Engineering program. The Associate Dean will support the strategic priorities of the FSDE, including: increasing student success and retention; promoting excellence in student and faculty development; enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion; and supporting the development of a cohesive curriculum that meets or exceeds professional accreditation requirements.

The Associate Dean assumes the role of Acting Dean in the Dean’s absence.


Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Dean, the FSDE Associate Dean will work closely with the Dean to provide overall academic support and guidance for the operation of the undergraduate degree program in the following areas:
•    provide academic governance leadership for curriculum and accreditation/continuous improvement;
•    academic advising of students;
•    guidance to students and instructors regarding academic regulations, including the academic appeals process;
•    tracking student progress towards completion of degree requirements with the support of the dean’s assistant;
•    review of student records for graduation eligibility in cooperation with the Registrar’s office;
•    maintain and review the transfer credits list and recommend transfer credits for the undergraduate program;
•    develop and maintain the course timetable, including coordination with the Graduate Studies Coordinator regarding the scheduling of graduate courses;
•    recommend students for awards and scholarships;
•    hiring and assignment of student teaching assistants;
•    provide guidance to the Success Centre Coordinator with respect to the Centre’s operations and objectives, and work collaboratively to identify student concerns and continually improve the student experience;
•    coordinate with the Associate Dean at the Cairo campus to ensure consistency of program delivery on both campuses;
•    promote teaching and learning supports and resources for instructors; and
•    other initiatives, as may be identified, that support the overall experience, progress, and success of students in the undergraduate Sustainable Design Engineering program.


Qualifications:

•    A completed doctoral degree in a relevant engineering discipline
•    Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Prince Edward Island
•    Experience related to best practices in student advising, program management, UPEI policies and procedures related to the undergraduate program, student experience, EDI best practices, engineering accreditation, and data analytics are significant assets.
•    Ability to build strong relationships with staff and students in the FSDE, Student Accounts, the Registrar’s Office, and the various departments aligned with student services.
•    Strengths in situational awareness, consensus building, diplomacy in problem solving, and project management are desirable characteristics.
