Part time: (4 hours per week for 11 weeks) February 16 to April 30, 2021. Full time: (37.5 hours per week for 16 weeks) May 3 to August 20, 2021 Some weekend and evening work may be required.  Possible extension of term/part-time hours based on need and budgetary approval.
Salary:

$12.85 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay, increasing to $13.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay on April 1, 2021

$15.75 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay during training week and four weeks of AVC Vet Camp (June 28–July 30)

The Atlantic Veterinary College is looking to hire a DVM student as a Student Coordinator of the 2021 Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Student Coordinator will assist in coordinating, planning, and scheduling all activities for the Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp 2021 (AVC Vet Camp) in consultation with AVC staff and faculty
  • They will play a key role in communicating with camp participants and their parents, and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of AVC Vet Camp when in progress
  • They will assist in the evaluation of the program
  • Although AVC Vet Camp will be the main priority, the Student Coordinator will be required to assist in the planning of other College events and special projects including the AVC-CVMA Blue Coat Welcome Ceremony, AVC Summer Academy, and the NSERC PromoScience-funded outreach program for Indigenous youth

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a DVM student
  • The student must possess strong organizational and leadership skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and be a self-starter, enthusiastic, and creative
  • The student must be mature, able to exercise sound judgment, have a demonstrated ability to teach and motivate children, and able to work effectively with their peers
  • Prior experience in event planning and supervising others would be preferred
  • Familiarity with animals and animal handling is required
  • Knowledge of the UPEI campus would be an asset
  • First aid certification is preferred

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
