The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in summer 2021.

 ED-4150-2  THE DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE

This course explores student diversity and addressing the needs of a wide variety of learners within the context of inclusive education. Particular focus will be placed on the development of instructional strategies that support all learners.

This is a three semester-hour course offered online to the Intermediate/Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Monday and Wednesday from 11:30am to 2:20pm, from June 3 to July 9.

ED-4220-3  MATH FOR TEACHERS (FRENCH SECTION)

The course provides opportunities for students to reason and make sense of mathematics in meaningful ways by discovering mathematics through inquiry-based instructional methods grounded in real-life contexts. Content will be drawn from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics five content (number & operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis & probability) and process (problem-solving, reasoning & proof, communications, connections, and representation) standards.

This is a three-semester hour course offered on campus in French.  This course is offered to students in the Primary/Elementary cohort of the Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program from June 3 to July 9, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:30am to 11:20am.

ED-4245  INQUIRY-BASED METHODS IN SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES (1 English section, 1 French section)

This course introduces pre-service teachers to curriculum integration in Science and Social Studies.  Pre-Service Teachers will learn how to use inquiry-based methods to connect learning with life experiences.

This is a three semester-hour course offered on campus from July 12 to August 13.  Section 1 is offered in English to students in our Primary/Elementary cohort of Bachelor of Education program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:20am.  Section 3 is offered in French to students in our Primary/Elementary cohort of Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:20am. 

ED-4740-3  TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION (French section)

This course provides an introduction to the integration of digital technologies into teaching and learning. The focus is on use of technology as a tool to support the school curriculum. Web-based communication and work with web-based resources is an essential component.

This is a one semester-hour course offered online.  Section 3 is offered in French to students in our Intermediate/Senior cohort of Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program from June 10 to June 24, on Thursdays from 11:30am - 2:20pm.  

ED-4800-3  ENSEIGNEMENT EN FRANÇAIS LANGUE SECONDE

In this course, students will examine the similarities and differences when teaching Core French, Immersion and French First language in a minority setting. This course will outline the guidelines and practices/strategies used in each of these three setting in the public school system.

This is a three semester-hour course offered on online in French.  This course is offered to students in the Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program from June 3 to July 9, Tuesdays from 11:30am to 2:20pm and on Fridays from 8:30am to 11:20am. 

ED-6250  CURRICULUM: LEADERSHIP IN LEARNING (2 sections)

In this course, students examine research into recent curriculum developments that are based on principles of integration, resource-based learning, and holistic learning, and which require the use of alternative assessment approaches. In addition, the impact of these developments on teachers’ instructional strategies and students’ learning are investigated. The focus is on the integration of knowledge about curriculum design and teaching in order to develop leadership skills for curriculum change.

This is a three semester-hour course offered on campus.  Section 35 is offered to students in the MEd Focus on Global Perspectives on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am to 11:20am from July 5 to July 30.  Section 58 is offered to students in the MEd Focus on Inclusive Education (Qualify for PEI Additional Designation), Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, from July 5 to July 9. 

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education degree.  Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Where courses are offered on-line using multi-media technologies, applicants will normally be able to demonstrate successful on-line teaching experience.  Candidates who do not have previous online teaching experience must be open to and willing to do extra training for this delivery model, and without additional compensation.

In addition, candidates applying to teach graduate courses will normally have established expertise, and successful leadership and/or teaching experience in a context related to the foci of the cohort.

In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority.

THE OFFERING OF THESE COURSES IS CONDITIONAL PENDING FINAL ENROLMENT NUMBERS.   ALL SESSIONAL COURSES ARE SUBJECT TO THE FINAL BUDGETARY AND ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL.
