"What makes UPEI unique is its culture of collaboration, support, and inclusiveness."
What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?
I am originally from Edo State, Nigeria, and was born and raised in Lagos, a vibrant city that greatly influenced who I am today, before I eventually moved to Canada. I was looking for an MBA program that would strengthen my leadership capabilities, offer exposure to diverse global business perspectives, and equip me with practical strategic skills applicable across industries. I explored several options, but after careful consideration, UPEI emerged as the institution that best aligned with both my academic goals and personal values.
The small class sizes, global leadership focus, supportive learning environment, and close-knit community stood out to me. I also appreciated the Island’s reputation for being welcoming and inclusive, especially for international students. UPEI felt like a place where I could thrive, build on my experience, and gain the skills and insights needed to make a significant impact in my career and beyond.

What do you find unique and interesting about the MBA in Global Leadership program?
The MBA-GL program is unique in its design, with a global perspective that makes every course relevant to working and leading globally across different industries. This makes the program highly relevant for anyone navigating global opportunities. Another distinctive aspect of the program has been the faculty's exceptional support and accessibility. Lecturers are always approachable and genuinely willing to help. Their teaching style made challenging topics clear and engaging. For example, before starting my Statistics and Business Analytics course, I felt unsure about how to navigate it. Dr. Scott Cassidy guided us through it with patience and creativity, using interactive resources and practical examples that made the course engaging and enjoyable.
The faculty lecturers were consistently supportive, inspiring, and committed to helping students succeed, creating an environment where learning was engaging and collaborative. Group projects and assignments enhanced my skills, allowing me to learn from classmates with diverse perspectives. My classmates were very encouraging and supportive. Coming from different backgrounds, we shared experiences, learned from each other, and built genuine friendships.
What opportunities have you experienced because you're studying at UPEI, or because of the Island location?
Studying at UPEI and living on Prince Edward Island has opened doors to both professional and community opportunities. Because of the program and the Island’s supportive environment, I currently work as Director of Operations and Technology at Innovation for Lawyers Inc., applying the skills and professional experience I've gained, along with the leadership insights from my MBA-GL studies.
UPEI also provided opportunities to engage in meaningful community initiatives. I participated in two major projects with the Immigrant and Refugees Services Association (IRSA) PEI. I helped organize the IRSA “Alternate Career Day” event, which connected over 100 newcomers with professionals and stakeholders for career development and networking. I also served as Technical Lead for IRSA’s “The Way Forward” Initiative, a strategic gathering of community leaders addressing PEI’s evolving challenges. My contributions were recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation from IRSA, reflecting the impact of my involvement. These experiences created opportunities to grow professionally, expand my network, and make a significant impact locally. My engagement and achievements were recognized through several awards, including the McDougall Faculty of Business Dean’s Graduate Student Leadership Award, the MBA in Global Leadership Merit Award (received twice), and the UPEI International Graduate Student Award.
