In September 2026, the University of Prince Edward Island reached a tentative agreement with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), representing Post-Doctoral Research Associates. This will serve as the first collective agreement between the University and its Postdoctoral Research Associates, who certified with PSAC in August of this year.

Both parties have now ratified this new collective agreement, and it is in effect. We’re grateful to the bargaining teams for their work to reach a timely agreement, and their professionalism and respect throughout the process.

With this agreement, four of UPEI’s seven bargaining units now have ratified collective agreements: IBEW 1928, CUPE 1870, CUPE 501, and the newly certified PSAC bargaining unit representing postdoctoral research associates.

Negotiations are ongoing with the UPEI Faculty Association’s two bargaining units (FA 1 and FA 2).

Collective bargaining with PSAC Local 86000, representing Graduate Research Assistants, Graduate Lab Instructors, and Graduate Tutorial Assistants, is scheduled for later this month.

UPEI remains committed to participating fully and cooperatively in the bargaining process and to reaching fair and sustainable agreements through constructive, good-faith negotiations.

We will continue to share updates on collective bargaining with the UPEI community on our Labour Relations web pages.
