UPEI has received Notice to Bargain from UPEI FA #2, CUPE 1870, and IBEW 1928. We are entering these negotiations at an important time for the University—a time that will shape the future of our academic and student experience.

At UPEI, we are focused on charting a new course that is grounded in respectful relationships, guided by our values, and shaped by the voices of our community. Every step we take is always meant to prioritize the student experience while building a better future for our community—one that enhances a culture of trust, safety, and inclusion.

Our approach to collective bargaining will be guided by our principles:

  • Our collective bargaining and labour relations decisions support the University’s mission and vision, reflect our values, and enhance a culture of trust, safety, and inclusion.
  • We will engage union counterparts with integrity, civility, and respect, and require the same from our employees and their union representatives.
  • As a major employer in Charlottetown and across PEI, we value our people and the critical work they perform to support the University’s mission and vision.
  • We respect the role of the unions and are committed to building healthy, trusting, and constructive relationships with them.
  • We strive to reach agreements with the unions that are fair and equitable while operationally and fiscally sustainable.

We are committed to reaching agreements that are fair for employees and sustainable for the long‑term health of the institution. We believe the best agreements are reached at the table, through respectful dialogue and constructive engagement—and that is what we are committed to.

We will continue to update the UPEI community throughout the collective bargaining process. Updates will also be posted on the Labour Relations web pages on upei.ca.
