Making our world a better place: UPEI Strategic Plan (2025–2030)
The following message was also emailed to students, staff, and faculty on November 4, 2025.
Dear UPEI Community,
In the fall of 2024, UPEI began a consultative process to develop a new strategic plan.
Over the course of 10 months, more than 700 members of our campus and broader communities engaged in conversations about the future of a strong UPEI and our role in making meaningful contributions in an increasingly complex world.
We are pleased to announce that Making our world a better place: UPEI Strategic Plan (2025–2030) was approved at the October 7, 2025, UPEI Board of Governors meeting.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort.
As a community, UPEI has emerged from a period of challenges and changes with a renewed vision for the future. Together, we will transform lives and communities through lifelong learning, scholarship, research, discovery, and partnerships. At UPEI, we will build on the power of education and research to unlock potential by connecting people and ideas to one another, to our province, and to the world.
Simply put, at UPEI we are all committed to making our world a better place.
With a vision that is clearer than ever, as well as a new senior executive team and stronger governance processes, UPEI is committed to being an institution that embodies its values. With the input of our community, UPEI’s core values of Academic Freedom, Accountability and Integrity, Pursuit of Excellence, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and a Sense of Belonging, and Reconciliation will serve to guide our decision-making and actions as we move forward together.
Our strategic pillars, Thriving People and Communities; Innovative and Connected Teaching, Research, and Scholarship; and Sustainability, will encompass many strategic priorities to be revisited annually for a strong, sustainable future.
UPEI must work toward ensuring positive growth and engagement for our students, faculty, and staff. We must work towards genuine and relational reconciliation with Indigenous communities, and constructive and productive relationships with communities and industry partners. We need to bring our best ideas and scholarly and scientific approaches and findings to these interactions and to the world. We must do all of this in sustainable ways.
As operational plans are developed annually to implement priority goals, measurable outcomes will be monitored, allowing us to track our progress and impact.
Our vision is aspirational and will challenge our community to do better, not necessarily more. Just as collaboration has been key to developing our strategic plan, the efforts of our entire University community will be needed to effectively implement our strategies for a stronger future for our students, faculty, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
We invite you to join us on this journey! Please help us launch our UPEI Strategic Plan (2025–2030) at the town hall on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:30 pm (more details to come.)
Together, we can make our world a better place.
