Virus warning from ITSS

Posting Date(s)
*WARNING* – We’re seeing an increasing number of reports of infections by the CryptoLocker virus. It is a virus that encrypts Microsoft Office documents on your local computer as well as files on the network. The only recovery is to restore from backup. Be very careful in opening up any attachment as most report that it was an attachment to a bogus FedEx or UPS shipping notice or banking related email. Once infected, you will see a popup saying your files are encrypted and demanding a ransom to get them back. If you think you may be infected, Immediately shut down your computer and notify ITSS helpdesk (566-0465) that you believe you have been infected by the CryptoLocker Virus. As a general rule be very cautious about emails received from people you don't know. Never open attachments unless you are sure of what they are.. Even messages from friends and associates may be as a result of malware infecting the senders computer. If in doubt, contact the sender to verify that the message and attachment was knowingly sent to you. ITSS
