Deadline: 01-Oct

Description: Beginning in May 2020 the Community Forward Award will be granted to a second or third year student who, in a formal or informal leadership role, has devoted significant time and energy to improving campus life through their work with a student, club or society, project, campaign, or other campus community initiatives. Preference will be given to out-of-province students who identify as women.
Background: "My experiences and relationships at UPEI gave me everything. I had an entire community of people committed to me succeeding as a student and as a person. If I had a project in mind, there were staff from across campus who would hear me out, fine tune it, and jump on board. If I gave my time to my peers, they paid it back tenfold. I created this award to encourage, recognize, and reward UPEI students who have devoted their time and energy to the learning that happens outside the classroom." Kate VanGerven (Class of 2013), graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a BA, English major. She served on the UPEI Student Union executive for three years including one year as president.
