|Background:||For over 200 years, BMO Financial Group has supported the principles of community reinvestment and corporate and social responsibility to the communities it serves. In 1917, the Bank of Montreal became Canada's first bank, and continues to play a critical role in the prosperity of Canadians. BMO is well known for its generosity through partnerships with numerous charitable organizations. It takes corporate responsibility to new heights through an understanding that the economic, social, and environmental choices it makes affect the lives of shareholders, customers, employees, and citizens across Canada. It also places honesty, transparency and accountability as top corporate priorities. BMO has more than 45,000 employees and, with a strong sense of community, continues to invest in higher education across the country. BMO has supported the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) for decades. In the fall of 2018, BMO again decided to provide a leadership gift to the university through a pledge of $250,000 to UPEI's Inspire! Campaign to begin in 2020. To recognize the value of student participation in studying abroad as a signnificant contributor to the sustainability of the social and economic development of the Island and broader communities, BMO has established these awards.|
