Assistant Professor, Infectious Disease Epidemiology

Krishna’s background and training is in Veterinary Epidemiology. He started his graduate training at Purdue University, USA as a Fulbright Scholar and earned a Master's degree in Comparative Epidemiology in 2011, followed by the completion of a Ph.D. degree in Epidemiology from UPEI. He furthered his training in Aquatic Epidemiology by joining Dr. Ian Gardner led Canada Excellence Research Chair program in Aquatic Epidemiology as Post-Doctoral Fellow. His research interests include simulation and statistical modeling, risk analysis, and epidemiology of infectious disease/parasite spread.

Krishna's current research is primarily focused on understanding the dynamics of aquatic animal diseases. He is leading several projects that apply epidemiologic and quantitative methods to answer questions related to health, production, the interaction between wild and farmed aquatic animals, and sustainability for a number of aquatic species, including salmon, lobster, and shrimp. Krishna has worked closely at the dynamics of farmed and wild salmon interaction and has acquired an excellent understanding of the epidemiology of several infectious agents affecting salmonid health on the East and West Coast of Canada. He has extensive experience in collaborative transdisciplinary research involving government, academic, and industry partners, including other stakeholders. Krishna's ongoing research projects include simulation of the spread of infectious diseases of food animals in the aquatic and terrestrial environment, development of algorithms for early detection of infectious shrimp diseases, epidemiological investigations of diseases of aquatic and terrestrial animals related to emergence and shifts in the microbial community.
