The University of Prince Edward Island recently received the sad news that Dr. Peter Meincke, President Emeritus, has passed away. He was the second president of UPEI, serving from 1978 to 1985; he was named President Emeritus in 2001 and a Founder of the University in 2015.

Friends and family may gather at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10 am. For those not able to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed.
