Faculty of Education is bringing you a teaching presentation titled Creating a Welcoming Classroom by Janet Payne. Everyone is welcome to join.

In this presentation, we will explore the importance of creating welcoming classroom environments as outlined in Teaching at Its Best: A Research-Based Resource for College Instructors by Linda B. Nilson.

This presentation will focus on ways of creating a warm, welcoming classroom environment that fosters student participation, motivation to learn, satisfaction with the course, and achievement of course objectives. Much of the practical information suggested by Nilson revolves around planning a welcoming classroom, creating a positive first day of class, developing rapport with and between students, learning students’ names, and creating an inclusive and equitable classroom.
