Submission deadline extended for mandatory Attestation and Exemption Form

The following Message from the President was distributed to faculty and staff via their @upei.ca emails.

Dear Faculty and Staff,

It is wonderful to see so many more people on campus for the 2021 Fall Academic Semester. However, the stark reality remains, we are still in the middle of a global pandemic. We were reminded over the weekend of the need to stay vigilant when the PEI Chief Public Health Officer announced an outbreak at a Charlottetown area elementary school.

“It’s all part of supporting the next generation of workers”

Amidst a global pandemic, UPEI’s Co-operative Education program had a landmark year with its highest number of students drawn from the widest variety of academic programs securing work term placements this summer. In partnership with primarily local employers, 73 undergraduate students across three faculties were employed in roles benefitting the students’ professional development and providing employers with access to high-quality talent. The co-op program had a 100 per cent placement rate for the summer, with every student seeking a work term through the program being hired.

Atlantic Veterinary College cancels the 2021 AVC Open House

For the second year, the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island has made the decision to cancel AVC Open House.

“Open House is one of AVC’s signature events and one that we take great pride in. We know that many people look forward to this event every year, which made this decision even more difficult,” explains Dr. Greg Keefe, dean, Atlantic Veterinary College. “Given the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, we decided it would be best to be cautious and look to resume Open House next year.”

SEASON PREVIEW: With renewed belief, Women’s Soccer Panthers look to snap playoff drought

If the exhibition results are any indication, the UPEI Women’s Soccer Panthers should be a fun team to watch this season.

Head coach Lewis Page was pleased to watch his team finish the preseason slate with a 2–2–0 record, including impressive wins against St. FX and UNB—two teams expected to sit atop the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) standings.

The biggest difference Page has seen from his squad since becoming their coach in 2020 has been their drive to win.

“They’ve really raised their competitive desire to a higher level, and it’s exciting to watch,” he said.
