UPEI engineering graduates finding personal and professional success close to home

When Peter Doiron showed up in September 2013 for his first day of classes as a UPEI engineering student, he didn’t realize how different his next five years of study would be compared to past graduates.

“I started here when the program was housed in Dalton Hall and was there for two years in the two rooms that we had,” he says. “When the new facility was completed (in 2016) we got to take on larger projects in spaces for machining, welding, 3-D printing, electrical, and robotics which I really enjoyed.”

UPEI researchers seek to identify climate-resilient and wart-resistant potato varieties on PEI

A multidisciplinary team at the University of Prince Edward Island made up of experts in climate change, gene sequencing, agriculture diseases, and precision agriculture has received $20,000 in funding from Genome Atlantic for a research project titled “Identification of Climate-Resilient and Wart-Resistant Potato Varieties for PEI.”

PEI Bunny Hop takes place April 16

For the second consecutive year, the UPEI Distance Running Program is managing the popular PEI Bunny Hop, which will take place on Saturday, April 16, starting at 8:30 am.

Since the 1970s, the Bunny Hop has been a popular road-running race on PEI, typically considered the official start to the Island’s road-racing season. The race is a fun run through Charlottetown, with distances of 5k and 10k. The first 100 registrants receive a free Bunny Hop T-shirt. The cost is $25.

Climate change survey for PEI potato farming practices

A research team led by Dr. Xander Wang, associate professor in the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation, invites the public to participate in a research survey focusing on potato farming practices in Prince Edward Island.

The data collected through this survey will be used in a research project that focuses on assessing the climate change impacts on potato yields in PEI. Toyin Adekanmbi, a MSc student supervised by Dr. Wang, will conduct the project.
