UPEI asks PEI community for help with housing for students
The University of Prince Edward Island is reaching out to the PEI community for assistance in helping students find housing.
With the start of classes coming up on September 7, numerous students are still searching for housing, said Laura O’Laney, acting director of Ancillary Services.
Rookie striker Patrycia Kozak excited to reunite with sister for UPEI Women’s Soccer
Growing up, sisters Patrycia and Veronica Kozak would end most soccer practices with a fun little game. The prize: bragging rights for the night.
The game was simple. Patrycia, a goal-scoring striker, had to take 15 shots outside the 18-yard box. If she scored more than five goals against her goalkeeping sister, she won. If she didn’t, then Veronica won.
When asked who gathered the most wins, Patrycia quickly deferred to her older sister.
“Yeah, she won most of the time,” Patrycia said. “She definitely had the bragging rights there.”
National Acadian Day
The Acadian people, pioneers and builders of the country, have celebrated Acadian Day on August 15 since 1881, the year in which the first national Acadian convention was held in Memramcook, New Brunswick. The National Acadian Day Act was passed by the Government of Canada in 2003.
National Acadian Day highlights the contribution of Acadians to the Canadian cultural fabric, recognizes their historical presence on the land, and celebrates their cultural specificity in all its diversity.

New digital map tells the history of transportation in Charlottetown
Active transportation is much in the news these days, but not so many years ago, cities, including Charlottetown, relied primarily on human- and horsepower to move people and goods around.
Dr. Josh MacFadyen, Canada Research Chair in Geospatial Humanities at UPEI, has launched an interactive digital story map of historical transportation in Charlottetown, covering the days of human- and horse-powered transportation to the coming of the automobile.
UPEI receives funding for upgrades for 2023 Canada Winter Games
UPEI will receive $300,000 through ACOA's Canada Community Revitalization Fund to update facilities in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre for the 2023 Canada Winter Games. The funding is one of two revitalization projects, totalling $1.3 million, announced by the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister Responsible for ACOA, on August 5 at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.

University's letter to the Minister in response to UPEI Faculty Association
The following message and letter was distributed by email to faculty and staff on August 5, 2022.
On Friday, August 5, 2022, the UPEI Faculty Association bargaining team advised that they filed for conciliation, and further, the Faculty Association declared that as a result, direct collective bargaining is now at an end. The University believes this is premature. Our letter to the Minister is attached.
