Atlantic Veterinary College hosts the 2023 Students of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Symposium
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) recently hosted the 2023 Students of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (SCVMA) Symposium on Thursday, January 19 to Saturday, January 21.
The annual symposium provides an opportunity for doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) students attending a Canadian veterinary college to come together, exchange ideas, develop and practice new skills, and learn information about the profession.
Basketball great Eireann Rigby to be inducted into the UPEI Sports Hall of Fame
UPEI has announced that basketball great Eireann Rigby will be inducted into the UPEI Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, February 3, during a pre-game ceremony. The UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers will play the Saint Mary’s University Huskies at home starting at 6:00 pm.
“Eireann is absolutely deserving of this honour,” said Jane Vessey, UPEI’s Director of Athletics and Recreation. “She was an exceptional student-athlete who epitomized what it meant to be a Panther. We’re glad her legacy will live on among other UPEI greats before her.”
Dr. Fred Kibenge publishes two aquaculture textbooks
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island is pleased to congratulate Dr. Fred Kibenge, professor, Department of Pathology and Microbiology, AVC, on the recent publication of two textbooks.
Flag Raising in honour of Black History Month
Members of the UPEI community are welcome to join the UPEI Student Union and Black Cultural Society in the raising of the Pan-African flag in front of Kelley Memorial Building on Wednesday, February 1 at 12:30 pm in honour February being Black History Month. February is Black History Month
Every year in February we celebrate Black History Month (BHM). The month was created to provide an opportunity to share, learn, and honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities, but also to recognize that work remains to be done to fully integrate Black culture, history, and achievements into the Canadian fabric.

Aiden Rainford and Elijah Miller named UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 23–30 are Aiden Rainford (women’s basketball) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).
Rainford, a fourth-year forward and psychology student from Toronto, Ontario, was a physical force in the paint and put up 15 points and eight rebounds in a 73-64 win over the University of New Brunswick Reds.
UPEI Panthers this week (January 30–February 5)
The UPEI Panthers hockey and basketball teams are looking forward to a full week of games at home and away between January 30–February 5.
Wednesday, February 1
7:00 pm: The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers (15-9-2) are away in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to play the Dalhousie University Tigers (6-18-2). Both teams have split the first four games, each being successful at their home rinks.
UPEI Engineering students compete successfully at 2023 Atlantic Engineering Competition
Seven UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) teams competed at the 2023 Atlantic Engineering Competition (AEC) and represented their faculty very well during the event. The competition was hosted at Dalhousie University through the Atlantic Council of Engineering Students from January 20–22, 2023.
