What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?
I’m originally from Arequipa, a beautiful and historically rich city in Peru, known for its stunning traditional architecture, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes. As an international student, several factors influenced my decision to come to UPEI. The smaller class sizes allow for stronger connections with both faculty and peers, creating an engaging and supportive learning environment.
Important reminders about winter weather and university closures
The University of Prince Edward Island takes the safety and security of its students, faculty, staff, and the entire campus community very seriously.
The decision to "close" UPEI due to weather is not made lightly. However, in weather situations where the potential risk to UPEI’s students and employees as well as property, is high, the University may close, meaning that classes and exams are cancelled, and services are reduced.
When the University is closed, only students in residence housing and essential workers are permitted to be on the UPEI campuses.
Devon Lawlor and Keiran Gallant named UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for November 24–30 are Devon Lawlor (women’s basketball) and Keiran Gallant (men’s hockey).
Recognizing Remarkable Colleagues–October 2025, Issue 4
We are thrilled by the incredible response to our Recognizing Remarkable Colleagues program! The month of October saw another 47 incredible submissions, each one highlighting the generosity, dedication, and positivity that make our University such a special place. In just over two months, we have received a total of 107 submissions.
FSDE Vigil in Recognition of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, which marks the day in 1989 when 14 young women at École Polytechnique in Montreal (12 of whom were engineering students) were murdered in a violent act of misogyny that shook our country.
UPEI recognizes International Day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3
The University of Prince Edward Island will recognize the 2025 International Day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3 by flying the Flag of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in front of Kelley Memorial Building from December 2–4.

UPEI marks 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with flag event
UPEI is marking the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with a Red Flag Green Flag event that involves red and green laminated signs hung across campus. The signs are printed with examples and messages about “red flag” (unhealthy) behaviours and “green flag” (healthy) behaviours in dating and relationships.
Girls Get WISE Challenge Day takes place at UPEI on December 6
On Saturday, December 6, a “Girls Get WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Challenge Day” is being held at UPEI. The day will cover the topics of science, engineering, math, and technology for all female-identifying/two-spirited individuals in grades K-12.
UPEI’s Giving Tuesday Campaign focuses on students
This year, Giving Tuesday is on December 2, and at UPEI, the day is all about supporting our students!
