New Managers Certificate

Overview: Our pre-eminent professional development program, the New Managers Certificate, is designed for people who are new to a manager or supervisor role, or who aspire to become one. 

The New Managers Certificate will offer a hybrid learning experience, with sessions designed to support meaningful participation both in-person and online. Before the first session, participants will complete a short survey about their roles, experience, workplace challenges, and learning interests. Facilitators will use this information to tailor examples, activities, and discussions to participants’ needs.

Throughout the Certificate, participants will explore:

• Personal leadership styles
• Communication
• Strategic thinking
• Change management
• Performance management
• Creating effective teams
• Managing conflict
• Cultural awareness in the workplace

Current workplace topics – including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, hybrid work, inclusion, employee wellbeing, and changing workforce trends – will be integrated into relevant sessions. Participants will connect the learning to their own workplace experiences through practical exercises, case studies, scenarios, and discussions. A dedicated Moodle course space will provide access to session materials, resources, and ongoing activities.

After completing the New Managers Certificate, participants will have practical tools and greater confidence to lead people and teams, manage workplace challenges, and apply strategic thinking as their organizations evolve.

Designed for: People who are new to a manager or supervisor role, or interested in becoming a manager or supervisor in the public or private sector.

Type of Delivery: Hybrid (in-person and online)

Duration: 8 courses over 8 full-day sessions

Cost: $2,500 for the entire certificate; $449 plus HST for a one-day course.
