Flags at UPEI will be flown at half-mast on Sunday, September 27, to commemorate Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. In 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September as a national memorial day to give Canadians an opportunity to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers, and to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in keeping communities safe.
UPEI announces new $75,000 endowed leadership award in memory of Susan (Knickle) Deighan
The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) has announced a major endowment supporting student-athletes in memory of one of the University’s most decorated women’s basketball alumna. Thanks to a generous $75,000 gift from the Faye and David Huestis Family Foundation, the Susan (Knickle) Deighan Memorial Leadership Award has been established to celebrate and support members of the UPEI Women’s Basketball program.|
UPEI Philosophy Reading Group underway for 2026–2027 academic year

The first meeting of the UPEI Philosophy Reading Group for the 2026–2027 academic year will take place on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 pm in the Lady Slipper Room, Charlottetown Library Learning Centre, 97 Queen Street, Charlottetown. The group meets monthly at various downtown locations and is open to faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.

Stefania Angona and Joel Gallant named UPEI Panther Source for Ladner's Sports Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Ladner's Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for September 14–20 are Stefania Angona (women’s cross country) and Joel Gallant (men’s cross country).
Angona is a fifth-year psychology student from Brampton, Ontario. She had a strong showing in her season debut at the UPEI Invitational on September 19, leading the Panthers with an eighth-place finish overall in a time of 30:01.

How do we design assignments that keep students engaged across a term while also making their thinking visible as it develops? ARTS-1050 AI and Society pursued both through critical making. Over six weeks this summer, first-year students in a large asynchronous course produced a series of multimodal artifacts: maps of the algorithms shaping their digital lives, cardboard machines filmed on residence-room floors, physicalizations of recommendation systems, nutrition-style labels for language models, and more.

2026 Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament takes place September 25 to 27
The UPEI men’s and women’s basketball teams are set to compete at the annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament, which will be played from Friday, September 25, to Sunday, September 27, in the UPEI Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.
The tournament features nine teams from across Canada. The women’s pool includes McMaster University, University of Regina, Saint Mary’s University, and UPEI. The men’s pool includes Dalhousie University, University of Saskatchewan, York University, University of New Brunswick, and UPEI.
