| Students, Success Story

I was attracted to UPEI initially because it's a small university with small class sizes and a focus on undergraduate students and programs. I felt that going to UPEI would open many different opportunities and would allow me to remain close to friends and family on the Island at the same time.
I've received support from other UPEI students and professors. Some of my closest friends are people that I met during my first year at UPEI. They are the people that I turn to when I'm feeling stressed and need emotional support. When it comes to professors, they are always willing to answer any questions I may have or review a topic that I found particularly difficult. I've gotten the impression that my professors are invested in every student and are willing to support student learning in any way they can.

There are many opportunities to enrich your learning experience if you look for them! I've had the chance to work in a couple of different jobs at UPEI. I worked as a residence life advisor with UPEI residence and as a tutor in the math help centre on campus. Both jobs challenged me and helped me to think critically. Learning outside of the classroom during university can be just as important as learning inside the classroom.
The tight-knit UPEI community is what makes it unique. UPEI is large enough that it would be tough to know every student, but it's small enough so that you often run into other students that you know while walking on campus. UPEI's strong sense of community reflects PEI's community atmosphere. Also, the beaches—a spectacular spot to be on a sunny summer day!

If you enjoy problem-solving, this could be the program for you! Here, you will be able to enjoy small class sizes—especially in your third and fourth years—and get a chance to know your professors as well. There is also the possibility of conducting research alongside a professor in your third or fourth year if that interests you.
After I graduate, I am hoping to find a job in PEI. Mainly, I'm hoping to find a job that involves math modelling—applying mathematics to real-world problems to understand them better.
