Up to 18 hours per week (up to 2 hr preparation, 5 hr web communications and 8 web-based lab delivery, up to 11 hr marking) over the Fall 2022 semester.  Online help can be in the afternoons or evenings as best matches both instructor and student availability.
Salary:

$26.70 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay

As soon as possible to December 2022 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding, and departmental requirements)

The Department of Physics of the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Laboratory Instructor to be responsible for up to 4 web-based laboratory sections of Physics 1210 (Physics for Life Sciences I) during the Fall Semester. The work for this position will be completed online. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Familiarizing with online pre-set Physics 1210 experiments and making minor lab programming adjustments
  • Communicating with students and answering online help forum messages
  • Holding synchronous online help sessions
  • Marking lab assignments submitted through Moodle and Google documents
  • Coordinating Moodle-based activities and entering marks into the Moodle system
  • Other duties as assigned by the course instructor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.Sc. in Physics, with a background in instructing introductory physics labs
  • Experience evaluating physics laboratory undergraduate work is an asset
  • Experience assisting or instructing physics labs at UPEI is an asset
  • Experience with using and editing Moodle activities is an asset
