A research assistant position (up to 20 hrs/wk) is available for graduate student with interest in sustainability, and particularly sustainable engineering (although an engineering background is not mandatory). The student will work under the supervision of Dr. Grant McSorley and in collaboration with co-investigators in the faculties of Sustainable Design Engineering and Business to complete a literature review of recent advances in Sustainable Engineering practices as well as interviews of professional engineers regarding the role of sustainable engineering in their professional practice. The student will gain experience in interdisciplinary research, sustainable engineering practices and how to conduct interviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The student will collaborate in synthesizing current literature
  • The student will assist in developing the research protocol
  • The student will conduct interviews with professional engineers
  • The student will write a synthesis of the interview results and identify areas for future research
  • The student will assist in the writing of a final report

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a graduate student enrolled in a UPEI program
  • Good academic record and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Proficiency in interpersonal communication is required
  • Experience with qualitative research methods, such as interviews, is an asset
  • Experience in the areas of sustainability or sustainable engineering is an asset

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
